Real Wedding Feature – Jess and Chris

I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the Ashes Wedding Venue last year for Jessica and Chris’ beautiful wedding. So on the blog this week I thought we’d take a look at their big day for our Real Wedding Feature… Here, Jess tells me how she found the planning, the day itself and having Jane Gilbert Wedding Photography capture their day…

Where did you two meet? We met in our first year at University through a mutual friend, although it was another year before we made it official. We were together 10 years before Chris proposed.

Tell me about the proposal! It was the hottest day of the summer in 2017. We met at the station after a long day at work and we then walked back home across fields. The proposal took me completely by surprise, despite prompting it herself by commenting on how perfect the evening was, at which point Chris got down on one knee with the ring in his hand. It was perfectly understated but so romantic and so special.

Jessica and Chris at The AshesWhy did you choose the venue? We wanted a rural wedding close to my parents’ parish church in Bosley, Cheshire. We first visited the Ashes on a sunny, August afternoon and we were blown away by the stunning countryside views and amazing barn space. It was exactly what we were looking for. We couldn’t believe our luck that a date was available for the following May so we booked it on the spot.

Who was the dress designer and what was the style? The Pronovias dress was from Maria Modes in Macclesfield. It was the third dress she tried on and she fell in love with it instantly. It was fitted at the waist, with embroidered floral motifs and a long train.

Where were the suits from? We hired the suits from Slaters Menswear.

Jessica and Chris at The AshesWho did the flowers and why did you choose them? The White Room (Macclesfield) sorted the bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets, the groomsmens’ buttonholes and a stunning arch for the rood screen in the church. My Mum, Grandma Margaret and Auntie Ann did the rest, including pew ends and pedestals at the church, table centrepieces and other decorative touches at both the church and the Ashes. The theme was green and white; we based the flower arrangements around gypsophila and lisianthus.

What did you enjoy most about the planning? We loved travelling back to Bosley to make arrangements with our parents, local suppliers and the church.

What details were important to you and what made your day unique? My parents surprised us by booking our wedding car – a Landrover, which was so much fun! The experience of climbing into the back of it in a wedding dress is one I will never forget! We wanted the meal to be fun for our guests so we chose the ‘Host a Roast’, something we’d never seen at a wedding before. Everyone loved it. In the evening, Chris played in the band alongside a few of his mates. This was so fun and special, especially as music has always been a shared passion for both of us.

Jessica and Chris at The AshesWhat did you enjoy most about the day? The wedding ceremony at the church was incredibly special and emotional. Neither of us will forget the feeling when I walked down the aisle; there was so much joy and love in the room. It turned out we got married on the same day as Prince Harry and Meghan (although we definitely booked the date first!). This led to a lot of jokes on the day. As everyone will remember, the weather was glorious. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

What did you think of the service provided by Jane, the photos and your album? Jessica and Chris at The AshesJane was excellent! She provided a great service in the run up to the wedding, meeting with us to talk through our requirements. We knew she had done several weddings at the Ashes before but she even went out of her way to visit the church and Jess’s parents’ home to familiarise herself with the setting ahead of the big day. Jane was brilliant on the day itself – she involved everyone, developed a great rapport with our guests and made sure we got the photos she knew we wanted. Our album is perfect – we love it! Jane responded to our many requests for changes, clearly putting in a lot of time to make the album as we wanted. The photos are absolutely gorgeous and capture our wedding day beautifully. She is a brilliant photographer with a great, bubbly personality and we are really pleased to have met her.

Which is your favourite image from the day? Jane caught a lovely moment just before I walked into the church. I am looking back at my dress whilst my Dad arranges my veil and train.
